But, before one of them could react, Lewis blew the whistle, and the game was over. As (Y/N) lunged like a wild chicken whose own egg had been stolen, Abigail tried to flee but was too late as the two of them collapsed onto the beach, grappling each other as they both sought to pull the golden egg out of each other's clutches. Sebastian and Sam were far too preoccupied with preventing one another from stealing the golden egg, while (Y/N) was left with only a few seconds to take the egg before the clock ran out. "I need it for the sprinklers-AND IT'S MORE IMPORTANT THAN OUR FRIENDSHIP!" she cried, kicking sand as she sped to her.Ībigail shuddered, bracing herself for what was to follow. "Abby, I can't give up the egg," the farmer said, raising her eyes to her friend and preparing to strike, her heel pressing into the soft sand. After all, whoever has the last egg until the timer ends will win the game. She was holding the last egg in her hands-the last point to win the golden egg. How about we split the money between the four of us? We can have pizza in the saloon and celebrate? Right? Just give up, and I'll let you have a share." Abigail was shocked but had seen this coming. The two consistently passed through rounds until there were only two pairs of them left: Sebastian and (Y/N), the second being Abigail and Sam. "Yeah, we won," he responded almost quietly but cheerfully.įollowing that, there were other games in which Sebastian and (Y/N) did not win first place but did advance through the rounds. He averted his gaze and put his fist over his lips, feeling his cheeks burn as the two of them pressed in on one another. "We won, Seb!"Ī quiet breath caught in his throat as the female farmer exclaimed, as if jolting him out of his trance. (Y/N) turned to the raven-haired man and flashed him a small grin while softly pumping her fist. The audience erupted in applause as the two were followed by others. The two, surprising those who were watching, finished first in the race. "We're so close to the finish line! We also got the egg!" she exclaimed, giggling under her breath. It was oddly satisfying, but so close for comfort that he was afraid his partner was hearing it. “One, two, one, two-” Her voice echoed in his ears, a chant that he had been hearing for the past few minutes since the race started. ![]() Even the pounding footsteps of the competition around him were quieter than the thumping of his heart. ![]() There was no pressure in the race he was in, yet his heart was hammering as if he'd been running marathons. Despite the coolness of spring and the crisp, soothing gusts that blew past his face, he felt the warmth caressing his physique and spreading to his cheeks. He took a few deep breaths that had been lost in the rush of the moment. ![]()
